Falling Blocks

3D animation created with Adobe After Effects CS6 and Newton.

I modeled the Lego in AE CS6. I then created the 2D physics simulation in Newton and parented the 3D blocks to the 2D sim layers.

The glossy reflections and Fresnel effect help the realism, as does my choice to use no “specular” settings, but instead create reflections using white cards. Rendering was done in linear-light at 32bpc, and all the motion blur and depth-of-field comes from the After Effects ray tracer.
